An exciting opportunity has arisen in Bristol or Cardiff for an experienced Senior Associate Sustainability Consultant to join a well-established multidisciplinary consultancy delivering sustainability advice across a diverse portfolio of projects.

This position offers the opportunity to lead major client commissions, manage multidisciplinary project teams and play a significant role in developing both technical capability and business growth. The successful individual will work closely with clients, architects, engineers and contractors to deliver high-quality sustainability strategies that support low-carbon, high-performing buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the successful delivery of complex sustainability projects for a range of commercial clients.
  • Take responsibility for project performance, programme management and financial reporting.
  • Build strong relationships with clients while identifying opportunities for additional services and future work.
  • Support business development activities, including preparing fee proposals and contributing to winning new projects.
  • Lead client meetings and multidisciplinary design workshops, communicating technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Oversee the development of sustainability, energy and net zero strategies throughout the design process.
  • Manage the delivery of environmental certification schemes including BREEAM, WELL and Home Quality Mark.
  • Carry out or oversee technical assessments including embodied carbon analysis, circular economy studies, building performance modelling, overheating assessments and operational energy analysis.
  • Champion whole life carbon reduction across project teams.
  • Mentor, develop and support junior consultants through technical guidance and project leadership.
  • Allocate work, review technical outputs and maintain high standards of project delivery.
  • Contribute to research, innovation and the development of industry guidance and best practice.
  • Represent the business within industry groups, professional organisations and networking events where appropriate.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should have significant experience within sustainability consultancy and demonstrate expertise across several of the following disciplines:

  • Sustainability and energy strategy development.
  • Part L compliance and building performance modelling using software such as IES and Elmhurst.
  • BREEAM and Home Quality Mark assessments.
  • Sustainability statements and planning documentation.
  • Whole life carbon reporting and embodied carbon calculations.
  • Circular economy strategies.
  • Net zero carbon planning.

Additional experience in areas such as NABERS UK, operational energy, thermal comfort modelling, overheating analysis and health and wellbeing certifications would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate:
  • Extensive experience leading sustainability consultancy projects within the built environment.
  • Chartered status or equivalent professional recognition, or clear progress towards achieving it.
  • Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
  • Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to contribute to business development and client growth.
  • A commitment to mentoring colleagues and supporting technical excellence.
  • A proactive approach to innovation, professional development and advancing sustainable design practices.
